FREDERIKSTED — An accused drunk driver was arrested after police say he was involved in the two-vehicle crash in Paradise on St. Croix Tuesday night.
John Stephen Gaudet, 66, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Patrol Officers were dispatched by 911 dispatchers at 10:00 p.m. to an automobile collision that occurred on the Queen Mary Highway near the Paradise bus shanty in Frederiksted, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers met with the drivers involved in the crash, and while interviewing Gaudet, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Gaudet’s breath, police said.
The officers attempted to administer a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, but he could not
do the test due to injuries to his legs, according to police.
Gaudet was then placed on the Intoximeter, but he was unable to blow correctly three times, police said.
The suspect was then placed under arrest on the charges described above.
Bail for Gaudet was set at $1000.00 per bail chart.
He posted the bail amount and was released pending his advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court at Kingshill on Wednesday.
