INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever spent the offseason building a championship-caliber roster and, today saw how far they have to go against the New York Liberty, the reigning WNBA champions.
And the Fever found how far they have to go, losing the game on the margins 90-88 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Jonquel Jones got going early for the Liberty (3-0), which opened the court for her teammates. But turnovers, an issue for both teams, became problem some as the Fever (2-2) capitalized more frequently than the Liberty to get into the game.
That helped the Fever overcome a 15-point deficit to take a lead that grew to as many as 12 in the second half. The game featured 14 lead changes and 15 ties.

Her last 3-point make was with 6:31 left in the fourth quarter of the season-opening win against the Chicago Sky. She missed 12 consecutive attempts dating back to that point until she hit a 3 with 1:04 left in the third quarter, was fouled and hit the and-1 to lead 73-68. She then hit a stepback 3 to beat the third quarter buzzer for a 76-68 lead.
