VIDE offers Credit Recovery Program for Summer 2025

CHARLOTTE AMALIE —The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) reminds the public of the 2025 Credit Recovery Program in both districts for students who may need to retake failed courses.

While Credit Recovery is not mandatory, we strongly encourage students to stay on track by attending classes regularly and completing their coursework on time to avoid the need for summer remediation.

Throughout the school year, VIDE provides free Credit Recovery opportunities to assist students in meeting academic requirements. However, for courses failed in May 2025, a mandatory fee will be applied for summer sessions. The cost structure is as follows:

  • First Course: $350
  • Second Course: $150
  • $10 Insurance Fee (for courses held on-campus)

VIDE encourages parents and students to take advantage of the free academic support available during the school year to prevent the need for summer Credit Recovery. For more information on program details and registration, please contact your middle or high school administrator.

John F. McCarthy is a veteran journalist in the Caribbean, writing from the "Decision Space" where survival meets the surreal. His reporting steel was tempered by a lineage of legendary editors and broadcasters, including Ed Wynn Brant (The Bomb), Owen Eschenroder (Ann Arbor News), Lynelle Emanuel (BVI Beacon), and Charles Thanas (WSVI-TV). Alongside longtime colleague Kenneth C. "Casey" Clark, McCarthy has navigated the front lines of the territory’s history—from the 1997 volcanic "snow" to every major hurricane since Hugo. Known for leaning out of doorless helicopters to capture the "money shot," McCarthy now edits the V.I. Free Press, providing the essential link between the island's colonial past and its SpaceX future.
