Wife tries to kill husband to ‘sacrifice’ him and son at Florida home

SEMINOLE, Florida — A man was injured when his wife tried to stab him twice, attempting to kill him after she said she needed to sacrifice him and their son.

Pinellas County deputies were called just after 8 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Tara Cay Court in Seminole in reference to an assault and battery. When they got there, they found Richard Dedert outside in a robe with a cut on his forearm.

He told deputies that he woke up to his 58-year-old wife, Karen, standing over him at 5 a.m., asking, “Where is our son?” When he questioned her, she said, “I need to sacrifice and kill you both,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Karen tried to stab him with a large knife, but Richard was able to block the attack, disarm her and lock himself in a downstairs bedroom. At 7:45 a.m., he left the room to shower, and after, she lunged at him with the knife, deputies wrote.

She was trying to stab him in the abdomen, but Richard raised his arms to defend himself and was cut on his forearm. While they were fighting over the knife, Karen kept yelling, “I’m going to kill you,” the report said.

Richard was able to disarm her and escape the home when he called law enforcement.

Deputies said Karen was still inside the home, so they detained her and put her in a patrol car. She didn’t want to talk to law enforcement but spontaneously said, “These aren’t the clothes I was wearing when I stabbed him.”

She was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder.
