Beer bottle assault lands woman in jail on assault charge

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas woman was charged in a bloody assault on a man, authorities said.

Janine Crispin, 42, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault-domestic violence, simple assault-domestic violence and disturbance of the peace-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit/Domestic Violence Unit were dispatched to the Schneider Hospital at 7:44 p.m. Thursday after a man reported that he had been assaulted by Janine Crispin, according to the VIPD.

The victim stated that while he was giving Crispin a ride upon her request, an argument ensued between the both of them, police said.

When they arrived at the destination, Crispin struck him in the face with a Corona glass bottle, according to police.

The victim also stated that Crispin then exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot, police said.

The victim said that due to the extent of his injuries he sought medical treatment at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

Crispin met with detectives in the Domestic Violence Unit at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

The suspect was advised of her Miranda Rights and agreed to provide a statement, police said.

Crispin was taken into official custody, booked and processed. She was not offered bail as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

She was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.

Crispin is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Charlotte Amalie.

This case remains under investigation by the Domestic Violence Unit.
