In the wake of the Sherrone Moore scandal and subsequent fallout, Michigan may have found its replacement at the helm of the Wolverines’ football program.
Per ESPN, Kyle Whittingham — the head coach at Utah — “has emerged as the focus of Michigan’s coaching search,” wrote Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel. “Whittingham’s candidacy is expected to be shared with top Michigan officials on Friday, sources said, and a deal could come together in the near future if they approve.”
Whittingham has been incredibly successful as the head coach at Utah, but he announced that he’d be stepping down after the team’s Las Vegas Bowl game on New Year’s Eve against Nebraska.
Wasn’t Kyle Whittingham heading to retirement?
Yes. Per USA TODAY Sports back in October, “The day he lets the powers that be in Salt Lake City know he is giving up his headset, Utah will give him a post-retirement job as a special assistant to the athletic director.”
But maybe this job is enticing for the longtime head coach.
How old is Kyle Whittingham?
He’s 66 years old.
Why did Kyle Whittingham step down from Utah?
In his statement, he said “the time is right” for him to leave.
