With Sherrone Moore officially fired, all the frustration in Ann Arbor has been diverted over to Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel.
After two full seasons as the head coach of the Wolverines, Moore was let go for having an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” The Pittsfield Charter Township announced that he’s in custody as a suspect in an alleged assault. As of now, he’s expected to appear in court for his arraignment on Friday.
“The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today,” Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Liz Mack said. “Mr. Moore remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail.”
According to ESPN, the Wolverines launched an investigation into Moore during the fall because they received a tip about the situation. However, they couldn’t find “credible evidence” that proved any wrongdoing.
It wasn’t until this Wednesday that “overwhelming” evidence was presented. Fans believe the players are the biggest losers in all of this because Manuel and the athletic department weren’t transparent with them.
Time is running out for Warde Manuel?
The majority of the college football world believes Manuel should be fired before this weekend even arrives.
“Sources tell me Warde Manuel will be gone within the next few days. The months long (at least 4 months) coverup by Warde protecting Moore has reached a tipping point for the Regents. Clean slate.
“Warde Manuel should be fired his lack of control over the Michigan athletic dept these last few years is beyond excusable,” a second person wrote on X. “From railroading and slow playing Jim Harbaugh to allowing information a lot of us had heard through speculation over a week ago to make it past signing day is absolutely egregious..”
“There’s no way Warde Manuel makes it through this right? You can’t actively cover this up after all the s— that’s ready happened and keep your job,” a third person said.
“Warde Manuel should’ve been fired 6 years ago. The bags been dropped on that for too long,” another person commented.
As of now, it’s unclear if Manuel will be let go. For what it’s worth though, this isn’t his first scandal since becoming Michigan’s athletic director in 2016.
It’s possible Manuel will be allowed to hire Michigan’s next head coach despite all the backlash.
Michigan’s coaching search has not yet taken off, but Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer and Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea are two popular candidates.
