If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas in Miami, the white caps on the waves at local beaches will have to suffice.
After a breezy start to Christmas week, with gusts up to 30 mph Monday and Tuesday, the winds subside by Wednesday’s Nochebuena to gusts of around 20, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
The winds make beach conditions sketchy Monday and Tuesday, with a high rip current risk announced for coastal Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties through Tuesday evening. There are small craft advisories in effect for South Florida and Keys waters. You may need to rearrange some holiday decorations that were tossed about, but South Florida should have a toasty Christmas Eve and Day. Expect high temperatures just above seasonal norms, according to media partner CBS News Miami.
Holiday temperatures
The normal high in Miami for Christmas week is 78, according to meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez. Monday through Thursday, we’re looking at 79.
It gets warmer on Friday into the pre-New Year’s weekend with highs of 81 Friday and Sunday and 82 Saturday, according to CBS News Miami. Look for lows around the upper 60s, according to the weather service. We’re normally at 64 for a low, the station reported.
Rain chances
There’s a slight 20 percent chance for showers on Tuesday from the Florida Keys through Fort Lauderdale. Otherwise, sunny skies are ahead through the weekend.
