CRUZ BAY — Police said a man who doesn’t know how his skull cracked open during an incident of violence in St. John will have to be air evacuated off-island for medical treatment to save his life.
The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) notified 911 about 3 a.m. Monday that the unidentified man was being treated there for “severe injuries.”
Police said a “black male” was assaulted on St. John. The victim was stabbed and sustained a fractured skull during the incident.
EMTs told police that the man refused to say who had assaulted him, where it happened on St. John and other salient details.
Hospital officials told police that the man sustained stab woulds to the right side of his chest, defensive stab wounds to his left forearm and a fractured skull.
Police surmise that based on the wounds he sustained he was stabbed and assaulted with a blunt object about 2 a.m. Monday.
