DPNR Wants To Help You Recover Family Heirlooms After Hurricanes With Workshops

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Commissioner Dawn L. Henry, Esq. of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources announces that the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute’s National Endowment for Humanities will be sponsoring a workshop on Recovering Family Treasures.

“In light of all the destruction we’ve been exposed to due to the hurricanes, this workshop is designed for residents of our community to learn how to preserve damaged personal heirlooms, such as artwork, photos, personal papers, and other family heirlooms”, stated Commissioner Henry.

Experts will be on hand to demonstrate how to handle dry and clean damaged objects and also to share tips on personal safety, setting priorities, and other preservation options.  There will be examples of common personal heirlooms on display to demonstrate salvaging techniques.  Due to safety concerns, please do not bring your damaged objects to the workshop.  If you have specific questions about your personal heirlooms, feel free to bring images of each item to discuss with the preservation experts directly.

Commissioner Henry urges the community to attend this invaluable FREE workshop.
