VIPD: St. Croix’s Jelani ‘Banana Man’ Pitman Shot Dead At Golden Rock Nail Salon

CHRISTIANSTED — For the third time in six days, a man was shot to death on St. Croix.

Jelani “Banana Man” Pitman, 26, was shot multiple times at St. Croix Nails in the Golden Rock Shopping Center near Domino’s Pizza, Sterling Optical and Pueblo Supermarket about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.

When police arrived they found Pitman lying on the ground in the doorway of the St. Croix Nails, according to the VIPD.

“The victim appeared to have sustained several gunshot wounds to the body,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.

Pitman was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance “where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:29 pm., by medical attendants at the hospital,” Dratte said.

On Tuesday, 45-year-old Richard Christopher was killed in a hail of bullets in Williams Delight. On Saturday night, 33-year-old Brandon Nesbitt was shot to death on Saturday at the El Rincon Bar on Queen Street in Frederiksted.

Pitman’s murder was the 21st killing on St. Croix this year. There have been eight murders so far in 2018 on St. Thomas.

This shooting is under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
