Man Beaten Badly By ‘Good Samaritans’ Who Gave Him A Ride, Robbed Him in St. John

CRUZ BAY — A hitchhiker on St. John was savagely beaten with a handgun and robbed of his smart phone and jewelry just outside the only town here, authorities said.

The unnamed man said he was leaving the Quiet Mon Pub before 1:45 a.m. Sunday in St. John when he accepted a ride from a passing motorist, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victim later was transported to St. Thomas via the ambulance boat and then taken to Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.

VIPD detectives met with the man who said he accepted a ride from someone who had other passengers in the car, Dratte said.

One of the passengers hit him with a handgun about the body, despite trying to fight off the blows, according to the VIPD.

Someone in the car took his iPhone and a gold chain, the unidentified man told police.

  1. They took his iPhone. They’re GPS tracked. St. John is a small island. I expect the VIPD to have suspects in custody very soon. If not, something’s wrong.
