3 Armed, Masked Men Holdup Racetrack Gas Station At Riflepoint Today

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Virgin Islands Police Department officers of the Richard Callwood Command and the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that took place at the Racetrack Gas Station and Convenience Store on St. Thomas about 2:58 a.m. today.

When VIPD detectives interviewed Racetrack’s private security, the security guard said that there was a total of three armed men.

“He described one of the masked individuals as dressed in all black with a red bandana covering his face,” VIPD spokesman Carl Caesar said. “That suspect approached him with a rifle weapon and instructed the armed guard to put his hands up and proceeded to disarm him.”

The security guard went on to observe that two more perpetrators dressed in the same above-mentioned clothing approached and entered the convenience store area.

“While being held at gunpoint, he observed that the taller of the three suspects went behind the store’s cash register area demanding the cashier on duty to place money from the register into a plastic bag, while pointing a weapon to the worker’s forehead,” Caesar said.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

This case is classified as a first-degree robbery.

It is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
