CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 25-year-old St. Thomas man was shot to death in his own car today near the waterfront in downtown, authorities said.
Mikal Dore of Contant was fatally injured in a shooting in Estate Thomas about half past 12 noon, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Officers traveled to the area and located an unresponsive black male sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds about his body,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Emergency Medical Technicians on scene “concluded that the male did not have any signs of life,” Derima said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received a call from a concerned citizen of shots fired in Estate Thomas at 12:25 p.m. today.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 25-year-old Mikal Dore.
Dore said on social media that he worked at East End Plaza. He attended Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) and studied chemistry at UVI.
The tributes to Dore were already pouring in on Facebook this afternoon on social media.
“(Dore) was also being trained to be a certified building inspector in the territory through FEMA,” Kimmy Knight said on Facebook. “He worked two jobs and was doing so well. Such a sad ending for a promising young man.
Not sure what was going on in his personal life but he seemed to be loved by many.”
“Jahhh ????????❤️❤️ wow rip Mj Mikal Dore,” Nuna Morton said on Facebook today.
Some of the social media comments tended towards the philosophical.
“When are we going to stop killing each other? It seems to be too easy to kill someone that looks just like we do,” “Top Fan” on Facebook Cleve Jackson said. “We’re our own worst enemy it’s counterproductive and quite frankly stupid. Africans Unite and stop the senseless killing of each other.”
The slain man said on social media that he was originally from Basseterre, St. Kitts.
