Woman Gun-Butted In The Head During St. John Home Invasion Last Night: VIPD

CRUZ BAY — Two men dressed in black broke into a St. John woman’s home and gun-butted her in the head during a home invasion last night, authorities said.

Police were notified of a residential burglary that occurred in Cruz Bay about 10:13 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The female victim, who made her report at the Leander Jurgen Command, stated that she was in her residence when she heard a knock on her door, according to the VIPD.

“She said she asked who was knocking, two black males dressed in black kicked the door in and entered her residence,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “One of the suspects assaulted her with a firearm while the other took her bag that contained her documents.”

The victim reported that the suspects ordered her into the bathroom and left the area, Derima said. She then traveled to the police station to file the report.

Emergency Medical Technicians were dispatched to the police station, and they treated the victim for lacerations to the head that she received from the gun-butting incident.

Police did not say if any other valuables were in the victim’s bag besides the documents.

“That’s why doors should always open outwards,” Lawrence A. Creque said on Facebook tonight. “I thought that VI building code demanded that anyways, because of hurricanes. A shotgun would have also helped.”

This case is currently under active investigation.
