St. Croix Man Tells Police He Violated Restraining Order By Texting Girlfriend: VIPD

KINGSHILL — A St. Croix man who violated a Superior Court restraining order by texting his former girlfriend has been arrested by police, authorities said.

Hasani J. Hippolyte, 25, of Bethlehem New Works, was arrested at 5:51 p.m. Saturday and charged with contempt of court-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers received a report of a violation of a restraining order in connection to Hippolyte on Saturday, according to the VIPD.

“The investigation into the matter revealed that Hippolyte has a court-ordered restraining order, which prohibits him from contacting his ex-partner,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Hippolyte, through his admission, violated the restraining order by calling and texting his ex-partner.”

Hippolyte was subsequently placed under arrest, according to police.

No bail was set in this matter as per the territory’s domestic violence laws.

He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
