St. Thomas Man Who ‘Goes On Bad’ At Gas Station In November, Goes ‘Meek As A Lamb’ To Police: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man wanted in connection to a gas station assault turned himself in to police one day after a wanted poster was issued for his arrest, authorities said.

Joseph Alexander Lee, 32, of Paul M. Pearson Gardens, was arrested at 6 p.m. Tuesday and charged with disturbance of the peace, simple assault, third-degree assault and aggravated assault & battery, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Lee was wanted in connection to an assault that occurred at the 1st Stop Gas Station & Convenience Store in Estate Thomas on November 22, according to the VIPD.

Police issued a wanted poster on Lee on Twitter at 5:28 p.m. Monday. He was in official police custody by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Bail was set for Lee was set at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

There are surveillance cameras at every gas station in the territory. If the assault happened in the parking lot of 1st Stop Gas Station, it is likely that the incident was captured on surveillance video.

In August of 2015, Lee was accused on putting a heated metal pot on a woman’s upper arm, causing visible burn marks to appear, police records indicate.

Lee was also arrested for assault in November 2011, when he allegedly kicked his own father, damaged his father’s property and attacked a police officer, according to VIPD records.

All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this news article are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
