Glucksberg’s Armed Cat Burglar In Custody After Bench Warrant Issued For His Arrest On St. John: VIPD

CRUZ BAY — The St. John cat burglar who entered people’s homes in the wee hours of the night and stole valuables has been arrested, authorities said.

Khalid Smith, 22, of Estate Bellvue, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with first-degree burglary, using a weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, possession of an unlicensed firearm, petit larceny, and possession of an unlicensed firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.

“Smith, armed with a gun, was observed on surveillance entering a residence in Estate Glucksberg, on December 23, 2020,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He allegedly removed items worth over $1000 while the residents were asleep.”

Smith’s bail was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

Detectives are still investigating this and other burglaries in the Glucksberg area, Derima said.

Smith was arrested by police after a Superior Court bench warrant was issued in his name, the spokesman said.
