CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A New Jersey man wanted in his home state for manslaughter was detained by federal authorities at the St. Thomas airport on Monday afternoon.
Luis C. Cancio, 38, of Elizabeth, NJ, was arrested at 4:32 p.m. Monday and charged with being a fugitive from justice, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Cancio was detained by Customs and Border Patrol at the Cyril E. King Airport, after it was discovered he was wanted in the state of New Jersey for a probation violation,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
The New Jersey man was originally charged with second-degree manslaughter in New Jersey, according to Derima.
Cancio was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections without bail, pending his extradition hearing.
