BROWSING IS BACK! St. Thomas Historic District To Remain Open To 8PM Fridays

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — You can shop and dine in downtown St. Thomas until 8 p.m. every Friday night starting tomorrow, officials said.

“The Downtown Historic District is a great place to browse for gifts and souvenirs, get a bite to eat or sip a cold drink,” the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism said on its Facebook page today.

And for those who love an evening stroll, the Main Street thoroughfare will now become a pedestrian mall with no vehicular traffic Fridays starting at 4 p.m., the Tourism Department said.

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands Police Department is advising the St. Thomas community that every Friday, from May 28 to July 30, Main Street in downtown Charlotte Amalie will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Officers will be posted along Main Street to ensure compliance from the motoring public,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

For more information, please contact the Office of the Chief of Police at (340) 774-2211.

All other days will maintain regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to officials.

Tourism credited the St.Thomas-St.John Chamber of Commerce and the Virgin Islands Police Department “for making this possible.” #CharlotteAmalie#StThomas
