Security Camera Surveillance Footage Assists Economic Crime Unit In Making Arrest

KINGSHILL — Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit initiated a grand larceny investigation on February 1.

The investigation revealed that Joseph Daniel Henschel entered a parked vehicle located in a residential area and stole several items including a Banco Popular debit card, which he used to purchase items totaling $1,472.26, at The Home Depot and Kmart stores without authorization, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“This information was obtained after surveillance footage was retrieved and reviewed from The Home Depot Store and Kmart located in Sunny Isles,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

On March 17, 2022, 10:59 a.m., 44-year-old Joseph Henschel was placed under arrest and charged with Grand Larceny, Forgery, Obtaining Money by False Pretense, and Trespass, according to the VIPD.

Unable to post the $20,000, Henschel was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending, Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled for Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
