CHRISTIANSTED — Police said an arrest warrant was issued 14 months after the driver of a pickup truck crashed head-on with an SUV — killing the other driver in Orange Grove.
Kai A. Jackson, 45, of Christiansted, was arrested today and charged with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide by means of a vehicle and reckless endangerment, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
On July 7, 2021, at around 3:06 a.m. the Patrol Division from the Ancilmo Marshall Command was dispatched by the 911 Emergency Call Center to investigate a two vehicle automobile crash that occurred on Orange Grove Road southbound lane, Route 703, in the vicinity of the old St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School.
Upon their arrival at the scene the officers observed both vehicles in a head-on collision in the south bound lane.
The operators of the vehicles involved in the crash were both male individuals, one was later identified as Sito Martin who was operating a red 2000 Suzuki Vitara. The second driver was identified as Kai A. Jackson, he was operating a black 2018 Ford F-150 Truck.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Red Suzuki Vitara was traveling in the southbound while the Black Ford pickup truck was traveling in the northbound lane. Evidence further indicates that the vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane.
The Emergency Room Physician at the Juan F. Luis Hospital stated that Sito Martin, 35, of Constitution Hill, succumbed to the injuries sustained to the body from the accident and was pronounced dead by the Emergency Room physician.
Detectives from Traffic Investigation Bureau (TIB) located and served Jackson with an arrest warrant from a Virgin Islands Superior Court Magistrate today.
Bail for Jackson was set at $50,000. He posted the 10 percent provision and was released pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
