CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man wanted in connection to a harbor-area stabbing incident that left one man injured last month was taken into custody yesterday, authorities said.
Lafayette Artis, 29, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Thursday and charged with attempted murder, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
A Virgin Islands Superior Court Marshall, requested Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to travel to Estate Richmond Beach near David Hamilton Jackson Terrace for an adult male with multiple stab wounds at 10:49 a.m. on October 3, according to the VIPD.
CIB Detectives then traveled to investigate the incident and discovered in the investigation that Artis had an ongoing feud with the victim who was stabbed multiple times in the upper back, and the back of the neck, VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.
An arrest warrant was issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands for Artis on Thursday morning, according to Dratte. A wanted poster was issued for Artis by police on Thursday afternoon.
Bail for Artis was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the John A. Bell Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
