FREDERIKSTED — In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as police week.

This year national police week is being celebrated from May 12 to Saturday in the territory.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State, and Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with courage and dedication.

In the territory the Virgin Islands Police Department will be hosting various events to honor the service and sacrifice of all law enforcement officers and recognition of their fallen brothers and sister blue.

Acting police Commissioner Jason K. Marsh “stated as we celebrate the handwork of our officers and supporting staff. Being a police officer is often stated as a thankless job, but I say Thank you and I appreciate you,

At the same time, we must remember those that given their lives protecting our community. let us continue to embrace their families as our family.
