VIPD: St. Thomas Resident Arrested After School Gun Brandishing Incident

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Two hurricane recovery contractors squared off to fight at a St. Thomas school — one pulled out a gun during the argument and it turned physical, authorities said.

Angelica V. Lee, 40, of Dronningens Gade, Charlotte Amalie, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and charged with discharging/aiming a firearm, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, use of firearm during crime of violence, possession of firearm within 1,000 feet of a school; brandishing, exhibiting or using deadly weapon and disturbance of the peace, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Police officers were dispatched to the Antilles School in reference to an altercation, and then were updated that shots were fired in Bolongo, according to the VIPD.

“The preliminary report states that two women who are providing contracted work for the school had a verbal altercation that became physical,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “One of the women then retrieved her legally licensed firearm, shot two rounds in the air, and then pointed it at the other woman.”

Bail for Lee was set at $66,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing.

This matter is currently under active investigation.
