FREDERIKSTED — Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor said today that the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) “is committed to the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.”

“To that end, the VIPD is announcing that effective Monday, March 23, Central Records Bureau offices, Firearms Bureau offices and fingerprinting services territory-wide will be closed until further notice,” Commissioner Velinor said.

Chiefs of Police Ludrick Thomas of the St. Thomas/St. John District and Sidney Elskoe of the St. Croix District also ask the general public to report non-emergency incidents by calling 911, (340) 776-9110 in St. Thomas/St. John or (340) 772-9111 in St. Croix.

“Officers will still respond to crimes in progress or a crime in need of immediate follow up,” the commissioner said. “The VIPD regrets any inconvenience this may cause.”
