VIPD Investigating Fatal Shooting Of Luis Perez at Barren Spot on Sunday

CHRISTIANSTED – The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday evening at Barren Spot on St. Croix.

Officers found 23-year-old Luis Perez of Castle Burke unresponsive yet still breathing at the scene around 7:50 p.m., VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

“Upon officers’ arrival to the area, they discovered a vehicle in the roadway,” Derima said. “The driver of the vehicle had gunshot wounds about the body. The victim was transported to Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment, he later succumbed to his injuries.”

The 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of shots fired in Estate Barren Spot at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to police.

Next of kin identified the man who was shot as Perez.

This incident is being investigated by the VIPD Major Crime Unit.
