St. Thomas Man Charged After Domestic Violence ‘Assault’ Causes ‘Visible Injuries’ To Woman: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man is in official custody after police said he assaulted a woman Wednesday, causing visible injuries to her body, authorities said.

Glenford Rawlins of Paul. M. Pearson Gardens was arrested at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday and charged with simple assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Rawlins is accused of assaulting the victim in the matter, causing visible injuries that required medical attention,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Detectives from the VIPD’s Domestic Violence Unit made the arrest of Rawlins on Wednesday evening, according to Derima.

Due to the territory’s domestic violence statutes, Rawlins was not offered bail.

He was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
