St. Thomas Man Charged With Illegal Gun Use After Brandishing, Firing Weapon

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who was brandishing a weapon near a baseball field in Anna’s Retreat has been arrested on illegal gun use charges, authorities said.

Rashad Amari Creque, 23, of Estate Contant was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Saturday and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Alvin McBean Ballpark in Anna’s Retreat on report of shots being fired about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to the VIPD.

“Spent casings were found in the area, and a witness reported that a male, later identified as Creque, was waving a firearm and being belligerent,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The witness also said that Creque fired shots in the air.”

Officers located Creque and ordered him to surrender, but he barricaded himself in his residence, Derima said. Officers were able to enter the residence, and they apprehended Creque.

Bail for Creque was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

This case is currently under active investigation.
