Two St. Croix Men Arrested On Drugs, Guns Charges After Routine Traffic Stop

FREDERIKSTED — Police arrested two St. Croix men at a routine traffic stop and charged them with illegal drugs and illegal guns charges on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Arrested were: Daniym Heywood, 23, of Ludvig Harrigan Court and Sylvester Christopher, 20, of Sion Farm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Heywood was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Thursday for a robbery that allegedly occurred on March 5 in the vicinity of Fisher and Strand Streets, Frederiksted, according to the VIPD.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, discharging a firearm, brandishing and exhibiting or using a deadly weapon and grand larceny, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Christopher was also arrested at 2:30 p.m. Thursday charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition during the traffic stop, according to the VIPD.

Bail for Heywood and Christopher was set at $50,000 each for their respective charges.

Neither man was able to post bail. Each man was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending advice-of-rights hearings.
