Man Fires Weapon At Bystander, Then Leads Police On High Speed Chase Around St. John: VIPD

CRUZ BAY — A man in a company vehicle led police on a high speed chase around St. John Friday afternoon after firing a weapon in the direction of a person, authorities said.

Rashad A. Creque, 24, of Contant, was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Friday and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said..

“Creque is accused of discharging a firearm at an unknown person,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “While driving his employer’s vehicle, he led officers on a pursuit around the island of St. John.”

After a brief attempt to flee officers, Creque was apprehended with a firearm in his possession, Derima said.

St. John Deputy Chief of Police Vivianne Newton praised the officers for their determination in locating and apprehending Creque.

“I am happy that we were able to catch him without serious injuries to himself or our officers,” Deputy Chief Newton said.

Bail for Creque was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
