St. John Man Who Led Police On High Speed Chase Re-Arrested On Car Theft Charges: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. John man who shot at a bystander and then led police on a high speed chase was re-arrested Monday and charged with stealing a company vehicle to try to elude police.

Rashad Creque, 24, of Estate Contant, St. John, was arrested about 6:15 p.m. Monday and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Creque led officers on a high-speed pursuit throughout the island of St. John on Friday after an alleged reckless endangerment incident,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He was not authorized by his employer at the time to operate the vehicle used in the pursuit.”

During the course of the hot pursuit, Creque caused major damage to the company vehicle, leaving it non-operational, Derima said.

Creque is currently in the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections after being arrested on Friday.

Bail for Creque was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded back to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
