Estate Paradise Man Charged With Illegal Gun Possession After VICI Traffic Stop: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — Officers assigned to the Virgin Islands Crime Initiative arrested an Estate Paradise man on an illegal weapons possession charge on Saturday night, authorities said.

Jahseem A. Smith, 26, of Louis E. Brown Villas, was arrested at 7:16 p.m. Saturday and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession or sale of ammunition, and possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, the Virgin Islands Police Department said..

“VICI officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Queen Mary Highway in the vicinity of the Castle Burke residential community,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “During the traffic stop, officers discovered a loaded firearm. Smith does not have a license to carry a firearm in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and was arrested.”

Bail for Smith was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, Smith was remanded to the custody of the V.I. Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
