Contant Woman Entering Her Apartment When She Hears Gunfire, Realizes She’s Been Shot: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas woman said she was going through the threshold of her apartment early this morning — when she heard gunfire — and then realized that she’d been shot.

She asked a neighbor to dial 911 for her — because she’d been shot in the hand.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report about 12:52 a.m. today that an adult female reported being shot in Contant, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The woman reported to police that she was entering her residence with her boyfriend when gunshots were heard, according to the VIPD.

“After realizing she had been shot, the victim asked a neighbor to call 911,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

The female victim was taken by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) for treatment of a gunshot wound to her left hand, Derima said.

Officers on the scene observed and collected spent shell casings and a firearm near the residence, which will aid in the investigation, police said.

Police are asking anyone who knows what may have happened to call 911, the VIPD at (340) 774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-8477.
