St. Croix Man Watching Illegal Drag Racing Near Container Port Shot Dead

KINGSHILL — A man was shot and killed while watching illegal drag racing near the Container Port on St. Croix’s south shore on Saturday night, authorities said.

William Isaac, 19, of Aureo Diaz Heights, was identified by next of kin as the shooting victim, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center in reference to a gunshot victim at 11:07 p.m. Saturday, according to the VIPD.

Officers learned that a male gunshot victim was transported to the hospital via private vehicle, police said.

“The driver reported to police that he and the victim were at the Container Port Road to view illegal car races when he heard a gunshot,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The driver noticed the victim was injured, needed help, and drove him to the hospital. The victim succumbed to his injury a short time later.”
