KINGSHILL — Two St. Croix men escaped serious injury despite shooting at each other at close range, ducking behind gas station pumps at a service station near mid-island as they fired, authorities said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Sam’s Gas Station in Estate Glynn to a report of shots fired at 11:27 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers arrived at the area and learned that two male individuals were shooting at each other, according to the VIPD.

“The investigation into the matter revealed that two males were in a vehicle, a maroon Acura, at the gas station,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Both males subsequently exited the vehicle and started shooting at each other from opposite sides of the vehicle.”

One of the suspects fled the area on foot, while the other suspect fled in the vehicle, which was later found at a residence in Estate Glynn. No injuries were reported, Derima said.
