CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who confronted a woman with a weapon after she had taken out a protective order against him was arrested on domestic violence related charges early this morning.
Fernando Santiago, 44, of no fixed address, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. today and charged with contempt of court-domestic violence; disturbance of the peace by threats; and possession of a dangerous weapon, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Santiago is accused of threatening a female victim with a weapon in downtown Christiansted on January 25, violating a no-contact court order,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He was spotted in the Kingshill area by detectives and apprehended.”
Derima told the Virgin Islands Free Press tonight that his police report did not indicate what type of weapon Santiago is accused of threatening the woman with.
“I don’t know what kind of weapon was used,” he said.
Santiago was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections. He could not be offered bail in accordance with Virgin Islands domestic violence statutes. His advice of rights hearing.is still pending.
