La Grange Man Shot Through Rear Glass By Male On Foot: VIPD

FREDERIKSTED — A male on foot with a gun ambushed a St. Croix man near his La Grange house — shooting him through the rear glass of his car this morning, authorities said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of a shooting incident in Estate La Grange at 9:55 a.m. today, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

A 27-year-old man reported driving to his residence when he heard a gunshot coming from the rear of his vehicle in close proximity to his home, according to the VIPD. He noticed the rear windshield was damaged and realized he had been shot.

The unidentified victim made it to his residence and was able to call a friend who took him to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center, where he was treated and released, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

“The suspect was seen fleeing into the bushes — in the vicinity of Krystal Springs Water — and a white SUV was also observed driving recklessly in the area traveling south,” Derima said.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to please call 911.

“A lot of thing going on in St. Croix,” Elif Castillo said on Facebook. “Too much thing going on in St. Croix.”

One Virgin Islands Free Press reader, William Pollard of Detroit, Alabama contended that calling the rear glass of an automobile a “rear windshield” is an “oxymoron.”

“It (is) referred to as the rear window,” Pollard insisted. “In the U.S. the windshield faces forward. You must be a product of VI public education and didn’t pay attention in class.”

Google, Safelite, and police departments nationwide did not agree with Pollard.

:Simple and intuitive, the rear windshield (or rear glass) is located opposite of the front windshield, and is located in the back of the vehicle, sealing it off from the outside.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: The reporter in question rode the short bus to class, Mr. Pollard. He wasn’t academically qualified for a “public education.”
