Tropical wave leaving, Saharan dust plume moving in, high rip current risk for St. Croix

SAN JUAN — Good morning! Our main image shows the water vapor visible on satellite imagery. A tropical wave is departing our area, but Saharan dust will follow, so please exercise caution, especially if you suffer from allergies🤧!

🥵It will be hot too…with a Heat Advisory in effect for all the coastal and low elevated municipalities, and also for the Virgin Islands.

🌬️It will be breezy too, and Small Craft Advisories are in effect for the local waters.

🥵There is a high rip current risk for St. Croix, and a moderate risk elsewhere.

No tropical cyclone formation is expected over the next seven days.

John F. McCarthy is a veteran journalist in the Caribbean, writing from the "Decision Space" where survival meets the surreal. His reporting steel was tempered by a lineage of legendary editors and broadcasters, including Ed Wynn Brant (The Bomb), Owen Eschenroder (Ann Arbor News), Lynelle Emanuel (BVI Beacon), and Charles Thanas (WSVI-TV). Alongside longtime colleague Kenneth C. "Casey" Clark, McCarthy has navigated the front lines of the territory’s history—from the 1997 volcanic "snow" to every major hurricane since Hugo. Known for leaning out of doorless helicopters to capture the "money shot," McCarthy now edits the V.I. Free Press, providing the essential link between the island's colonial past and its SpaceX future.
