CRUZ BAY— Senator Angel Bolques announced he plans to host a “critical” meeting for St. John taxi drivers, the Virgin Islands National Park Service (VINPS), and the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission “to discuss concerns regarding the proposed new fees by the Virgin Islands National Park for 2025, specifically the fees that will directly affect the Taxi Industry Drivers of St. John.”
The senator, who has previously met with the Virgin Islands National Park Service of St. John twice on this matter, said he “is committed to fostering dialogue and finding a fair and balanced resolution that
addresses the concerns of all stakeholders.”
Dates for this important meeting are being coordinated with Superintendent Penelope Del Bene of the Virgin Islands National Park to ensure it takes place before the proposal’s grace period concludes in February 2025. Senator Bolques is determined to ensure all parties’ voices are heard and their concerns addressed in a collaborative environment.
We must ensure that any decisions affecting the livelihoods of our taxi drivers are made with fairness and
consideration for their indispensable contributions to our tourism economy,” Senator Bolques stated. “I am
optimistic that this meeting will provide a platform for open and respectable dialogue. I look forward to
working with all parties to find an amicable and productive solution that benefits the park, our drivers, the
commission, and our community of St. John.”
Senator Bolques encourages all interested taxi drivers and stakeholders to stay informed and participate in
the upcoming discussion. Further details, including the confirmed date and time of the meeting, will be
announced shortly and made available through media platforms and press releases.
