Shots fired alert draws cops to man killed in Hospital Ground

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – Police are investigating after a shooting in St. Thomas left one man dead in Hospital Ground Wednesday night, authorities said.

Kamoui “Turtle” Francis, 34, was positively identified by a family member as the homicide victim, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The case began at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday, when the 911 Emergency Call Center was alerted by the Shot Spotter detection system that multiple gunshots were fired in Hospital Ground, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers traveled to the area and discovered an unresponsive black male who
sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body, police said.

Emergency Medical Technicians examined Francis and determined that he had no signs of life, according to police.

Francis’ death brings the total number of homicides reported in the territory so far this year to 43, including 22 on  St. Thomas and 21 on St. Croix.
