Bryan declared January 17 a day of honor for Acting HUD Secretary Adrianne Todman

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Governor Albert Bryan proclaimed January 17, 2025, as a Day of Honor for Adrianne Todman, recognizing her exceptional public service and leadership.

This proclamation celebrates Todman’s instrumental role in advancing energy resilience and supporting critical recovery projects in the U.S. Virgin Islands following the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Todman, a native of the Virgin Islands, began her career in public service in the office of the late U.S. Rep. Ron de Lugo. She is currently serving as the acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In this role, she has championed initiatives that enhance disaster recovery, rebuild infrastructure, and strengthen energy systems vital to the territory’s progress.

“Adrianne Todman has brought pride and honor to the Virgin Islands through her unwavering commitment to public service,” Bryan said. “Her leadership has been pivotal in advancing energy resilience and supporting projects critical to our recovery and rebuilding efforts. Today, we celebrate her as a trailblazer whose work exemplifies the best of what Virgin Islanders can achieve.”

As acting secretary of HUD, Todman has prioritized policies and projects that directly benefit the Virgin Islands. Her leadership has supported initiatives such as the Wärtsilä Generators and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), as well as the Government of the Virgin Islands’ and VIWAPA’s efforts to acquire critical propane infrastructure.

This infrastructure is vital to VIWAPA and the Bryan-Roach Administration’s goal of modernizing power generation and providing efficient and reliable energy to the territory. Additionally, her advocacy facilitated the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s acquisition of propane terminals, a key step in securing energy independence and stability for the region.

Bryan was prepared to bestow the honor to Todman in person during the January 17 ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Phase II Wärtsilä Generators at WAPA’s Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas. However, her flight from Florida to St. Thomas was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, preventing her attendance. Despite this, Bryan emphasized the deep appreciation the territory has for her contributions.

The Day of Honor for Adrianne Todman recognizes her achievements and the impact of her contributions to the territory’s progress. Her journey—from her roots in the Virgin Islands to her national role—highlights the transformative power of leadership and dedication in driving progress.

This proclamation serves as a lasting tribute to Todman’s career and her unwavering commitment to advancing the territory’s recovery and sustainability. Bryan encourages all Virgin Islanders to celebrate her legacy and continue striving for resilience and opportunity for future generations.
