DPNR beach advisory: condo row beach in St. Croix is not safe

CHRISTIANSTED — One beach in St. Croix is not safe for beachgoers based on water quality testing the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resource conducted.

Condo row in Estate Golden Rock failed to meet established standards for Enterococci Bacteria and should not be considered safe for swimming or fishing, according to DPNR.

DPNR performed water quality analysis at 36 designated beaches throughout the territory
during the week of January 21 – January 24, 2025.

The local environmental agency said it did not take samples from Water Bay on St. Thomas.

“Therefore, the water quality at this beach is unknown,” DPNR said.

Based on the analytical results, the following beaches met water quality standards and are
considered safe for swimming and fishing:

DPNR’s Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program evaluates weekly water quality at popular swimming beaches throughout the territory by sampling for Enterococci Bacteria and turbidity, which is a measure of water clarity.
