Mostly fair, breezy weather continues

SAN JUAN — We can expect mostly fair weather conditions to continue in the islands today.

It will be partly sunny and breezy with a brief shower or two.

There is a high risk of “life-threatening” rip currents with waves breaking up to 6-feet high, the National Weather Service said.

Additionally, there is an elevated fire danger risk for the southern hills and southern coastal plains of Puerto Rico between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. today, according to the NWS.

Meanwhile, hazardous marine conditions continue to present an increased risk for small crafts, the NWS said.

Through 6:00 a.m. today, mariners will see Atlantic waters up to 9-feet high and an Anegada passage with seas up to 8-feet high, therefore smaller crafts should avoid these areas.

John F. McCarthy is a veteran journalist in the Caribbean, writing from the "Decision Space" where survival meets the surreal. His reporting steel was tempered by a lineage of legendary editors and broadcasters, including Ed Wynn Brant (The Bomb), Owen Eschenroder (Ann Arbor News), Lynelle Emanuel (BVI Beacon), and Charles Thanas (WSVI-TV). Alongside longtime colleague Kenneth C. "Casey" Clark, McCarthy has navigated the front lines of the territory’s history—from the 1997 volcanic "snow" to every major hurricane since Hugo. Known for leaning out of doorless helicopters to capture the "money shot," McCarthy now edits the V.I. Free Press, providing the essential link between the island's colonial past and its SpaceX future.
