CHARLOTTE AMALIE —A man who allegedly drove through two officers on foot patrol to avoid a vehicle search has been charged with aggravated assault and battery and related charges, authorities said.

Levi Registe, 33, of Charlotte Amalie, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, aggravated assault & battery and disturbing the peace & making threats, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Registe’s arrest followed a series of alleged incidents in and around American Yacht Harbor in St. Thomas on the evening of February 25, 2025, according to the VIPD.

The case began at about 11:30 p.m., when officers responded to a report of a man making a verbal disturbance and threats at the Tap and Still Bar in Red Hook, police said.

The complainant said Levi Registe was not behaving properly and requested that he not be allowed to return to the establishment, according to police.

But when police arrived on the scene, Registe had already left.

A short time later, officers spotted Registe in the area around American Yacht Harbor, police said.

“When the officers informed Registe that his vehicle would be subject to a search, he abruptly reversed
his vehicle, striking two officers in the process, before fleeing the scene,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said. “One officer sustained visible injuries from the impact.”

Registe was subsequently detained by police and placed under arrest on the charges above, according to Chichester.

Bail for Registe was set to $50,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.
