AUGUSTA, Maine — An ex-SpaceX engineer and his French bride seemed to have the perfect life, sailing around the world in Instagram-worthy luxury.
But not long after they returned home to Maine, Margaux Whittemore, 32, was lying dead and naked on her mother-in-law’s driveway.
Samuel Whittemore, 34, went on the run, but he did not get far before a state trooper collared him, and is now behind bars charged with murder.

The full extent of what transpired at the house on Giles Road in Readfield before police arrived on Wednesday to respond to the 10.02 a.m. 911 call is still a mystery.

Margaux’s death was quickly ruled a homicide after an autopsy on Thursday, but how she was killed is so far only know to investigators.
Dorothy was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center in a critical condition, but has since improved and is listed as stable. Her injuries were not revealed.
Her husband, Whittemore’s father, was not home at the time but arrived home soon afterwards to the shocking scene.

The busy consultant appeared to work for several other companies at the the same time, all while sailing to Mexico, French Polynesia, Tonga, New Zealand, and Hawaii on the Havili since 2016.
Whittemore graduated from MIT in 2014 with a mechanical engineering degree, and was a member of the university’s cross country team.
He is languishing at the Kennebec County Jail and faced court on Friday morning. Police did not propose a motive for his alleged murder.
