SOB surveillance operation nets 3 men on gun, drug charges in St. John

CRUZ BAY — A special police surveillance operation on St. John yielded three arrests over the weekend, authorities said.

Jah’Wada Jones 33, was arrest and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said. Bail for Jones was set at $75,000.00.

Alvin Grant, 30, and Jarius Penn, 25, were each arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, according to the VIPD. Bail for each man was set at $7,500.00.

The case began between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 4, when members of the VIPD’s Special Operations Bureau, the Marine Unit and Intelligence Unit conducted a surveillance operation in Cruz Bay, Saint John and surrounding areas for individuals selling illegal narcotics, police said.

The three men were read their Miranda Rights, booked and processed in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas.

Unable to post bail, they were transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jai.

Jones, Grant and Penn are each scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas.
