CHARLOTTE AMALIE —One man is dead and another is wounded after gunfire erupted late Sunday night near Fort Pladsen — marking the second fatal shooting in a 24-hour period after the Carnival Village incident in St. Thomas.
The 911 Emergency Call Center was alerted Sunday by the ShotSpotter detection system to “multiple shots fired” near Fort Pladsen in St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Emergency dispatchers also got a call reporting that two males were shot and needed immediate medical attention, according to the VIPD.
Responding officers discovered two males on the scene who appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) also responded to the scene and began rendering life-saving assistance, according to police.
One of the injured men was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
EMT’s checked the second male for vital signs and determined that he did not have any signs of life.
“The identity of the deceased male is currently unknown pending contact with next of kin,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.
This case is currently being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.
