CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating after a man was shot dead in the restroom of the Fort Christian parking lot in St. Thomas just before midnight, authorities said.
Franky Matthew, 26, was positively identified by a family member as the homicide victim, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The fatal shooting brought an abrupt end to the last night of village activities at this year’s St. Thomas Carnival.
The case began at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, when officers assigned to the Carnival Village reported shots fired in the men’s restroom in the Fort Christian parking lot in Charlotte Amalie, according to the VIPD.
Responding officers found Matthew unresponsive in the bathroom walkway, police said.
The male appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to police.
Emergency Medical Technicians also arrived on the scene and checked Matthew for vital signs, police said.
EMTs concluded that Matthew did not have any signs of life, according to police.
The male was later identified by next of kin as 26-year-old Franky Matthew.
