A dad headed to work intervened as peacocks were being harassed in his neighborhood, and then he was shot at, Oregon officials said.
Now, a 25-year-old man accused of opening fire on him is heading to prison, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said in a May 12 news release.
Dylan Levi Rhoads was sentenced to seven and a half years years behind bars in connection with the incident, prosecutors said.
McClatchy News reached out to Rhoads’ attorney May 12 and was awaiting a response.
The Portland dad was leaving for work September 29, 2023, when he saw two people, including Rhoads, harassing a peacock flock, prosecutors said.
The pair reacted violently when the dad asked them to quit, including saying, “Bock, bock, bock you next,” prosecutors said.
The dad “disengaged, went back into his home and let them drive away,” according to prosecutors.
He left again when it seemed safe, but didn’t make it far when he saw Rhoads and the second person waiting, prosecutors said.
Shots rang out, with the dad’s car sustaining “multiple bullet strikes,” prosecutors said.
The dad was grazed but not seriously hurt, according to prosecutors, who said security video captured Rhoads’ car. Rhoads pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm and attempted murder in the second degree with a firearm, prosecutors said.
